The brave new tax world

Globalization continues to affect industries of all shapes and sizes. And while tax remained untouched for quite a while, the global financial crisis in 2008 and the start of multinational reform in 2013 sparked widespread change in the global tax environment. In its most recent issue of EY Tax Insights, Ernst & Young contemplates the future of the tax landscape: “Interconnected. That’s the word tax experts believe best sums up the future tax environment around the globe.”

The winds of change offer you a unique opportunity to influence and redefine tax as we know it. The future of tax, EY says, “will be determined to a great extent by the young people who are entering the field today.” Upon joining the taxforce, you’ll have immediate sway in a longstanding industry with a vital place in both the domestic and global economy.

Make Your Move

It's an opportune time to pursue a career in tax. The W. P. Carey Master of Taxation (MTax) opens the door to an exciting career in an evolving industry, while delivering the tools you’ll need to thrive once you get there. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 13 percent increase in accounting jobs through 2020 — and that’s only one country among many in the world of tax. The international aspects of tax and the globalization of policies and trends will give you numerous challenges to solve, places to advance your career, and ways to broaden your understanding.

The MTax will teach you to think strategically about the future of tax, so you not only have the skills to make and communicate effective decisions, but are prepared to become a thought leader in the tax environment. And since the School of Accountancy has a reputation for quality, you’ll have access to recruiters from the top national firms. Hosted every fall, "Meet the Firms" gives you the chance to meet and greet hiring firms that include Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Grant Thorton LLP, Henry & Horne LLP, KPMG LLP, and PwC.

This is followed by interviews and, for the majority of MTax students, a full-time job offer. Workshops, coaching, and other services through the Graduate Career Center (GCC) only increase the likelihood of starting your tax career well before you graduate. There’s a reason nearly 100 percent of our domestic MTax grads are employed within 90 days of graduation — discover a degree with real value at the W. P. Carey School of Business.
