March 24 marked the 2021 ASU Founders' Day celebration. Thousands of fellow Sun Devils joined the virtual event to honor the legacy and innovation of the ASU Community, and this year’s honorees.

W. P. Carey Professor of Statistics and Biostatistics, Jeffrey R. Wilson was recognized for the Faculty Service Achievement Award during Founders’ Day. Wilson, recently appointed co-chair of ASU’s new Advisory Council on African American Affairs and head of the W. P. Carey equity, diversity, and inclusion committee, is committed to working alongside ASU faculty, staff, and students to find ways to overcome systemic racism.

Amy Ostrom, interim dean and PetSmart Chair in Services Leadership, believes Professor Wilson’s work is instrumental for W. P. Carey and ASU.

“He is an advocate for justice, diversity, equity and inclusion at the W. P. Carey School of Business. Last summer, he was asked to lead our initial committee in critical areas. He agreed and formed six subcommittees and a larger assembly for feedback that involve more than sixty faculty, staff, and students in this necessary work,” she mentioned during the Founders’ Day celebration.

Besides his already impressive and extensive experience in biomedical, statistics and law, business management, and public opinion research, he has also co-authored a book with Katherine E. Irimata and Brittany N. Dugger titled “Fundamental Statistical Methods for Analysis of Alzheimer’s and Other Neurodegenerative Diseases.”

Wilson’s commitment to the Sun Devil Community is apparent. He is the ASU faculty representative for the Pac-12 and also a longtime member and past chair of the Sun Devil Athletics board.

Ray Anderson, vice president of Sun Devil Athletics mentioned how Wilson plays an important role in athletics at ASU. “He is an advocate and a passionate supporter of student athlete rights. He is known and respected on campus, within the Pac-12, and at the NCAA level.”

Professor Wilson continues to make the Sun Devil Community proud. “I love my teaching, my research, and the ASU Community. People ask me what I’m going to do when I retire. In my view, I’m already retired. I love what I do,” he said during the Founders’ Day Celebration.
