Arizona economist weighs in on weakest US job growth since 2003

New federal data shows hiring challenges as labor market slows down.

We had the biggest year in layoffs, I think outside of a recession — the biggest year in 25 years. It started with DOJ and then we had the government shutdown, and that didn’t help either. I think the undocumented worker fills a layer of the workforce that complements the employment of other workers. I'm just stating a fact that foreign-born workers have driven a base level of employment.
