My Saturday
As an Evening MBA student, I am busy between work, school, and life. The one day I take for myself is Saturday, when I watch football games with my alumni groups and friends. It’s a great chance to network as even between college, law school, business school, and veterans' groups from my days in the Army, you can never network enough.
The first game I watched was Georgia vs. New Mexico State. I was the only one not from Georgia, even though I attended the University of Georgia school of law. I'm actually from Texas...more on that later. Our group is small — there are not that many folks from Georgia in Arizona — but it's tight knit for that reason. The best part of the game watch was telling stories about our times at Georgia, especially for Homecoming. Of course, I had to answer the dreaded "Who do you root for more" question, but I plead the fifth.
Next I went to Cadillac Ranch in Tempe Marketplace to watch Texas play Texas Tech. This is usually a big game, but by the time I arrived, Texas was up huge. I was able to sing along with "Texas Fight" numerous times since Texas kept scoring. They have Shiner Bock on tap, and that's pretty much the unofficial official beer of the state of Texas. After the game, we always sing the "Eyes of Texas," which is another great Longhorn tradition.
After all that, it was time to meet some of these same friends, along with some of my ASU classmates, to watch ASU and Arkansas. There was a wedding happening on the patio while inside we were all watching football and eating. It made for a unique watching party. The father of the bride even came over and talked football with us for a while just moments before walking her down the aisle.
