Sun Mudders
Back in August, Joe Zanck, a first-year MBA student, sent out an email requesting participants to join him in the Arizona Tough Mudder. For those that don’t know, the Tough Mudder is a 10 –12 mile obstacle race held each year around the world. To date, Tough Mudder has raised over $2.5 million for the Wounded Warrior Project, so it's fun for a great cause. Thinking it would be great to do with my classmates and a good reason to get into shape, I quickly signed up for it. The event wasn’t until mid-January, so I figured I had plenty of time to get into shape.
As January drew nearer however, I had done very little to prepare and started to dread it more each day. A few days before the race I finally got up the courage to check out the race details… get fully submerged in an ice bath, run through a 1000 Volt live wire field, carry a log for a mile and 25 more horrendous obstacles. I had never run more than a 10K much less a 12 mile race full of obstacles. As my dread turned into depression matters got worse — our team decided it would be much more fun to compete in leopard print tights.
So not only was I going to have a horrific day, I had to do it looking ridiculous! When race day came, my teammates and I pulled it together. The obstacles were no joke — I thought my heart was going to stop in the ice bath and I was knocked out cold in the shock field — but miraculously we all finished in one piece! I’m definitely not saying I would do it again, but in end I had great time with my fellow MBA team and have a memorable experience.
