Boo!

For Halloween this year it is expected that Americans will spend nearly $80 per person on costumes, candy, decorations and haunted house admission tickets.  The high costs leave many families unable to fully participate in arguably one the most fun US holidays. That is why the W.P. Carey Volunteer Club in conjunction with Parenting Arizona throws a Halloween party each year. The party features a haunted house as well as activity stations for face painting, cookie decorating, balloon animals and pumpkin carving. This year, there was also “trunk or treating” in the parking lot. The target audience is kids three years old and younger, however siblings and friends of different ages also attended. Over 50 MBA students and faculty volunteered this year plus to help build the haunted house, set-up activity stations and clean up at the end of the night. Volunteers could sign up for as little as one hour, but most stayed 6-8 hours. The party was a great opportunity to work together, demonstrate creativity and above all do something nice for area kids.
