Transformative learning beyond the classroom
One of the hallmarks of the W. P. Carey Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program is how the disciplines of business, law, design, and construction weave together to build a stronger experience. And by exploring those intersections in the field, the MRED delivers transformative learning, not just transactional learning.
In addition to visiting various projects in and around the metro Phoenix area, each Fall the MRED program takes students to cities across the US to study significant projects in those markets. Students have visited Los Angles, San Francisco, New York, Denver, Washington D. C., Boston, and Miami, and those trips are more than just fun visits to great cities. They help bring to life what you learn in class and add a lot of value to the total MRED experience.
Compare and Contrast
By seeing them firsthand, you’re able to compare each site to classroom materials, and apply the knowledge you’ve gained to go inside the decision-making processes behind each project. These visits not only help connect concepts you learn in class to the real world but also give you distinct reference points for your career after you complete the program.
Build a Stronger Network
Engaging with professionals across industries is more important than ever before. And with tools like LinkedIn, staying in touch with contacts around the country (and around the world) is easier than ever before. Site visits give you access to professionals in other markets and possibly in other fields, expanding the scope and influence of your entire network.
Get the Word Out
ASU and the W. P. Carey School have a strong reputation that can open doors for your career, but meeting with leaders in development and associated fields in other cities helps the MRED program further establish itself and develop deeper connections within the industry. In turn, those deeper connections help strengthen the program and the experience of MRED students in years to come.
