Summer: Time to plan big!

Summer is the season for relaxing and thinking about the future. This month we are marveling at the success of our new Certificate in Applied Business Data Analytics, and making plans to demonstrate the value of IT competency to high school-age prospective students.

Summer is the season for relaxing and thinking about the future. This month we are marveling at the success of our new Certificate in Applied Business Data Analytics, and making plans to demonstrate the value of IT competency to high school-age prospective students.

Growing their data analytics skills

The new Certificate in Applied Business Data Analytics is turning out to be a big hit among students who understand the growing demand for employees with these skills. Last month 23 students graduated with the new certificate, adding it to a variety of majors including computer information systems, mathematics, Earth and space exploration, management, supply chain management, accountancy, marketing, engineering management, sustainability, economics, business law, interdisciplinary studies and health science. Enrollment has increased tenfold: currently, more than 250 students are pursuing the certificate.

These students are learning the importance of analyzing and leveraging data to create improvements in process and decision-making. More information

Courting future IS professionals

The W. P. Carey School of Business sponsors two summer residency programs for high school students. The new Business Scholars Institute launched in June with a four-day program for high-achieving high school juniors interested in pursuing business education and career opportunities. Next month, the Fleischer Scholars Program will provide economically disadvantaged Arizona high school juniors a great opportunity to experience college life, entrepreneurship and business during a week-long residential program. During these programs, information systems faculty are among other faculty and advisors who meet with them over lunch to discuss their college and career plans.

Do you know a high school student who might be interested in a career in information systems? Here's more information on how to engage!
