Is your boss's trust a blessing or a curse?

Business News Daily quoted Management Assistant Professor Michael Baer in their article about how an employee's relationship with their supervisor, isn't all it's cracked up to be.

A top priority for most employees is gaining the trust and confidence of their supervisors. It's generally thought that good communication with one's supervisor, enables a calmer and more efficient work environment. Yet, what if having a good relationship with one's supervisor means taking on more work? Management Assistant Professor Michael Baer commented that maintaining a good relationship doesn't always lead to a better work environment. From Business News Daily, December 7, 2015:

"One would think that enjoying a high level of trust from your supervisor would ease the inherent stresses of the job," Baer said in a statement. "But we found no direct association between feeling trusted by the boss and any relief from emotional exhaustion or resultant improvement in job performance."
