Topping this month’s news is the U.S. News & World Report ranking that shows our online Master of Science in Information Management and Master of Science in Business Analytics No. 3 in the nation among specialized graduate business degrees. These highly-ranked programs are part of an ecosystem of quality online education at the W. P. Carey School of Business.
Among the very best
As the spring semester was gearing up a few weeks ago, the Department of Information Systems received the good news that U.S. News & World Report ranked our two online master’s programs — the Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM) and the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MS-BA) — third in the nation among specialized business master’s programs. The Online MSIM launched in 2012, and the Online MS-BA followed in 2014. Both are 16-month programs, with a new cohort starting in January and August. “Rankings are a significant indicator of quality and return on investment for our stakeholders,” said Professor Raghu Santanam, department chairman. “I am pleased to see that the hard work of our faculty and staff in adapting and innovating to deliver high-quality courses in the online platform is paying off.” Santanam said that “we are amazed at the quality of our students and their ability to learn and collaborate in the online courses. These students are doing amazingly well in their careers.” These highly-ranked programs are part of an ecosystem of quality online education at the W. P. Carey School of Business. The W. P. Carey MBA Online was ranked fifth in the nation by U.S. News & World Report; the program has been top 5 since the publication started issued the rankings. We are in the top tier for undergraduate online programs, too. ASU is currently ranked 11th for online bachelor's degrees by U.S. News, which includes W. P. Carey’s six current degrees and majors offered online and four more — Business Data Analytics, Management, Marketing and Tourism — joining the list next fall.
Career fair matches employers to talent
In spring, students look ahead to internships or graduation, and the excitement of moving their careers ahead. This week, 38 companies brought 140 employees, ranging from recruiters to IT directors to vice presidents, to campus to meet with students in the Department of Information Systems. More than 300 students attended, representing all of W. P. Carey tech majors: computer information systems, business data analytics, Master of Science in Information Management, Master of Science in Business Analytics (MS-BA), the dual MBA/MS-BA, and MBA with specializations in either information management or business analytics. The next career fair is September 26. For information on how your company can participate, contact wpcareyis@asu.edu.

DISC off to a quick start
The Department of Information Systems Club (DISC) has a full agenda of learning and career opportunities this fall. The club includes students from both the Computer Information Systems and the Business Data Analytics majors, and is open to any business student interested in the field. This month, students have already benefitted from DISC’s very first coding class, hosted by USAA. The class focused on Java, and students learned to create a blog REST API using Java and Spring. This week, students were volunteering at the Tempe Town Library, teaching patrons Excel. Coming up are a couple of site tours: SRP in February and Fender in March.
