W. P. Carey honors faculty with teaching awards

Recognizing the dedication and success of W. P. Carey’s world-renowned faculty.

At the conclusion of each academic year, the W. P. Carey Teaching and Learning program honors outstanding faculty with a series of awards. Honorees are chosen by peers and leadership for the excellence they bring to the classroom and their research. The 2022-2023 teaching award honorees embody the W. P. Carey mission to spark "positive change in business and society on a global scale by educating students and growing talent to enrich and lead organizations."

W. P. Carey is proud to recognize excellence and impact in teaching in the six categories listed below that are nominated and selected by faculty. Honorees will share summaries of their teaching practices for use with faculty onboarding and development and present in teaching and learning workshops during the 2023-24 academic year.

The winners of the 'Entrepreneurial Approach to Learning' Teaching Innovation Award are Maria Rykaczewski (School of Accountancy) and the CIS 235 Course Team: Matt Sopha, Mike Guggemos, Kumar Sirugudi, Haily Tyler, and Nitin Walia (Information Systems).

Marcie LePine (Management and Entrepreneurship) and Eldar Maksymov (School of Accountancy) are winners of 'Business is Personal' Inclusive Teaching Award.

Winners of the 'Rethinking Business Education' Outstanding Online Teaching Award are Rex Ballinger (Economics) and Daniel McIntosh (Marketing).

Joana Girante (Economics) and Atif Ikram (Finance) are winners of the Huizingh Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher Award.

John Eaton (Marketing) won the Huizingh Outstanding Undergraduate Service to Students Award.

Winners of the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award are Hina Arora (Information Systems), Matthew Semadeni (Management and Entrepreneurship), and Denis Sosyura (Finance).

Daniel Gruber, associate dean for teaching and learning, is proud to honor the many outstanding faculty members at W. P. Carey School. "The incredible collaboration and care our faculty members put into teaching is truly inspiring," Gruber says. "We may be the largest business school in the country, but in line with our Business is Personal motto, our students receive personalized and innovative instruction to guide them through their degrees and into their careers."

In addition to the award winners, the Dean's List for Teaching Impact recognizes the breadth of teaching excellence and impact taking place across W. P. Carey. The list includes the finalists for the six teaching awards listed above.
