Gov. Hobbs appoints 19 people to craft Arizona's guidelines for using AI

Gov. Katie Hobbs has appointed 19 people to serve on Arizona's first steering committee tasked with crafting strategies on how to ethically use artificial intelligence. On Wednesday, the governor's office released the names of who will serve on the inaugural AI Steering Committee, which has been asked to develop a statewide AI policy framework that's grounded in "transparency" and "fairness."

The committee has been asked to craft guidelines for AI adoption across agencies and find opportunities to prepare the workforce. The committee's members are expected to hold their first meeting in May and will release their initial recommendations in the spring of 2026.

Greg Dawson, clinical professor of accountancy at ASU's W.P. Carey School of Business, teaches data analytics and is a published expert on using AI in government.
