The Phoenix region has profited immensely from past mega-events, but it is only beginning to focus on creating a lasting business impact from them, said Michael Mokwa, the Pat Tilllman Foundation Distinguished Professor at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
“I don't think we've worked hard on leveraging that brand imagery and the experience that we've produced for people directly at businesses. The Super Bowl was the first time that I'm aware of."
About Michael Mokwa
Michael Mokwa’s professional interests include strategic marketing and branding, leadership and decision-making and sports business. He is the contributing editor of three books, and his research has been published in leading journals. He is an award-winning teacher and is the associate director of the Masters in Sports Law and Business program. He also directs the Leadership though Action program for ASU Tillman Scholars.
Mokwa’s leadership is well-recognized. He was chair of the W. P. Carey Department of Marketing, founding director of the ASU MBA Sports Business Program, president of the American Marketing Association Academic Division and president of the international Sport Marketing Association.
He advises and consults with business, sports and community organizations. He was the lead investigator for a variety of sports-related economic impact and market studies, including Super Bowls XLIX, XLII and XXX, several BCS Bowl Championship games, and Phoenix Opens, NASCAR events and others.
