W. P. Carey launches Forward Focus MBA curriculum and scholarship

Arizona State University has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative universities in the U.S. One reflection of ASU's innovation has been a groundbreaking Full-time MBA curriculum within the W. P. Carey School of Business.

Business has undoubtedly changed over the past 20 years, over the past 10 years, and even over the past five years. What worked before simply won't be good enough, so our model for preparing MBA graduates to excel in the global business environment of the future needs to build on ASU's commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship, creating leaders who help organizations transcend boundaries and disciplines by providing innovative, sustainable solutions to global business and social problems.

The Forward Focus MBA Scholarship

The Forward Focus MBA scholarship represents not just an investment in students but also an investment in the future. The scholarship allows us to ensure opportunity for exceptional Full-time MBA students who exhibit creativity, ingenuity, and innate leadership capabilities. That's why the Forward Focus scholarship will cover the entire tuition cost of the Full-time MBA program.

Forward Focus MBA curriculum

The 60-hour Forward Focus MBA curriculum introduces four new courses in addition to core tenets of an MBA education:

  • Data Analytics and Decision-making trains students to be better consumers of data analytics and become more effective analytical leaders in a data-rich world. W. P. Carey is a leader in the business analytics field, pioneering curriculum in this ground-breaking discipline.
  • Executive Connections teams students with retired senior executives to enhance leadership competencies through experiments in leadership and lunch and learn sessions, as well as coaching, mentoring, and career preparation outside of class.
  • Intellectual Fusion Learning Labs pair MBA students with non-business ASU master’s degree students on action-learning projects that bring cross-functionality skills to our students. Business doesn’t happen neatly between the clear-cut lines of traditional business school core courses.
  • Future Forward Leadership prepares students to be more comfortable and skilled at dealing with ambiguous situations by building skills in design thinking, improvisation, and super-flexibility.

As Dean Amy Hillman explains in this discussion with Poets & Quants, the scholarship allows the W. P. Carey School to break down significant barriers to entry for future students, namely the expense of business school and the decision to pursue other opportunities that might not seem to require an MBA.
