Studies: starting a business in Arizona more difficult than in other states
Professor of Management David Waldman says creating an environment that makes it easy for people to pursue business ideas is a challenge universities face, but ASU is taking steps to improve this.
According to two studies released this week, including one by WalletHub and the other by Fit Small Business, Arizona isn't one of the best states to start a business.
In this article posted in the Phoenix Business Journal on July 6, 2017:
“Historically, universities are not business enterprises and faculty are not business men and women,” Waldman said. He said ASU, under President Michael Crow’s leadership, is taking steps to encourage academic entrepreneurship within its faculty, helping them turn their research into tangible businesses.
“We’re trying to do our fair share,” he said, adding that academic entrepreneurship represents a small portion of people trying to start businesses in the state.
