Made in Movember
At the W. P. Carey School, we pride ourselves on our tight-knit community. We also pride ourselves on leveraging the strength of our bonds to lend a hand wherever and whenever needed, whether that’s on or off campus, as individuals or in groups. Our students, faculty, and staff are actively involved in a range of causes through organizations such as Make‑A‑Wish America, United Way Worldwide, Forté Foundation, and The Movember Foundation — a leading global organization committed to changing the face of men’s health.
The Movember Foundation challenges men to grow mustaches throughout the month formerly known as November, but it’s about much more than facial hair. Every mustache grown raises funds for and starts more than 2,400 honest discussions about men’s health issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. Since starting in Australia in 2003, the annual Movember campaign has raised $559 million to fund more than 800 programs in 21 countries.
Getting involved is easy. Men start November 1 with a clean shave, then grow a mustache and only a mustache — no beards, goatees, or fake mustaches — to raise funds and awareness for men’s health from month start to finish. Women can participate the exact same way, minus the mustache. Be sure to check out the official rules and peruse grooming and styling tips from mustache pros at The Movember Foundation.
Last year, W. P. Carey MBA students sported mustaches to raise thousands of dollars as part of the Movember MBA Challenge, and ranked second among all the campus groups participating on behalf of Arizona State University. This year, we’re setting the bar even higher. All W. P. Carey MBA and master’s students, plus graduate programs faculty and staff are banding together to grow mustaches, raise funds, and spread awareness for the month of Movember.
The goal? To win this year’s Movember MBA Challenge, raise more funds than any other ASU group, and basically generate as much money and awareness as is humanly possible. Help us achieve our goal and check in for W. P. Carey mustache updates throughout November.
